Meeting
Notes:
Registrar Rachel Kaprielian
was introduced and welcomed the League.
She spoke of the importance of the working relationship between
the Registry and the Law Enforcement community.
She noted effective partnerships that are already in place, such
as Operation Yellow Blitz, Operation Guardian Angel, and Operation
Graduation. She continued on
to say that Operation Yellow Blitz has been scheduled [Date is
October 22nd - She would like the info to get to members of
the League but the date probably shouldn't be on the website notes
prior to the event] and is looking for the assistance of the
departments in making this a successful tool.
Judy
Dupille then spoke about several topics:
-
New Day-Glo
colored inspection stickers will be coming out for the coming year.
She was hoping to have some sample so that members could provide
feedback on them, but unfortunately, the vendor had not been able to
provide her any at this point.
-
She noted that
there have also been changes in the inspection process as well.
-
Made us aware
that bus drivers are being instructed to have anyone that wants to speak
with them while out on their routes go to the drivers window and not
open the doors. This is in
the interest of the safety of the occupants of the bus and has come
about as a result of Anti-Terrorism trainings.
-
She was asked
about status of the EZ-ID license plates and the Red Light cameras for
violations at intersections. She
said that she would get back to us with that information, as she
didn't have the most current status.
-
Bob Barry asked
if there had been any questions to the RMV about the changes in Child
Passenger Restraint (Booster Seats) as he is getting a number of
questions from his schools. Judy
said that they are getting a number of questions and that the schools
are required to comply. RMV
is getting together a training bulletin on this and will provide it for
us. Diana Dias of AAA
Southern New England says that they are working to come up with
literature on the subject as well.
-
Also noted was
the fact that there are new 7D / Bus License restriction that we should
be aware of. A 'Code 2'
restriction notes that the driver is insulin dependent or has had a
hypoglycemic event. The
driver is required to have a blood sugar log and glucose supply and
there is a review of their status every 6 months.
This is strictly on the Bus Driver / 7D licenses.
-
FYI - Counterfeit
Maine licenses are being produced by someone at Suffolk
-
Info on reports
sent to RMV of vehicles violating the school bus stopped to pick up or
discharge can be obtained by contacting Margaret Rohanna at the RMV.
She can provide info on where these violations are occurring.
Phone: 617-351-9904.
-
RMV also provided
School Bus Watch training videos.
AAA
Southern New England Update:
-
Diana let up know
about the current Child Passenger Safety Initiative to collect old car
seats. Seats can be dropped
at local AAA offices any the person bringing the seat can collect a $5
bounty or have it donated to SAFE KIDS.
The seats will be brought to a News Conference to be held on
September 26th at Boston's City Hall Plaza.
The collected seats will be crushed.
AAA, the Registrar and Mayor Menino are scheduled to be there.
Law Enforcement presence would be welcome.
-
She also brought
the Papa Gino's / D'Angelo bike safety gift certificates for
distribution.
