Safety is Everyone's Responsibility!

October 2009 Meeting Notes

Fall was definitely in the air in Bolton this past Wednesday! Whether you drove to the International in rain, sunshine, or the windstorm, nothing could take away the pleasant drive through the foliage! Ofc Chris Harrington of Bolton PD hosted an excellent meeting with a number of fine points:

Sgt Anthony Broullette of the Worcester County Sheriff’s Department spoke to the members at length about the number of programs being offered to residents in the area. A popular program has been the House Numbering Program. Being offered to any residents in need, homemade house numbers are created by the inmates. The numbers are large; clear to read, and even reflective. As part of the Community Service Program in the Corrections Office, this program has provided many with proper signage. We all recognize the need for such in an emergency and if anyone is interested in obtaining signage, please contact Sgt Broullette. The Department also offers Files of Life, Reverse 911, and Iris Eye Scanning for dementia patients.

Diana Dias and John Paul of AAA-SNE provided members with unbelievable quantities of Halloween bags and bookmarks. Thank you to AAA-SNE for always stepping up to the communities!

Tom Mollung of Mollung Associates presented the Members with a quick talk about all of the products that he has to offer. Everything he sells can be printed with your own logos. A portion of all sales made by MSOL Members goes back to the League!

The RMV was present to discuss a number of items with the Members. Questions regarding 7D transportation were many and Judy Dupile is looking into some definitive answers for the members. October 21 is the Annual Yellow Blitz and if your community is participating, please contact Paul Harkins with your information! Jerry St Hillaire, the RMV Outreach coordinator with the MA Chiefs of Police, was on hand to answer some questions. He also announced that License renewal reminders will be available for email, texting, and cell phones. If you are interested, check out the Registry Website for registration information – also pass the word along in your communities! Discussion regarding the issuance of citations to bicyclists was brought up and the members were advised that all of the new regulations would not be ready until January 2011.

Mike Kirby of Longmeadow Police officially retired and passed his torch onto Chip MacElhiney! The League honored him with the presentation of a MSOL chair. Mike has been a member for a number of years and also served as President. We wish Mike and his family some well-deserved rest and hope to see him at meetings in the future!

Well wishes to Ofc Bob Barry of the Weymouth Police Department who was recently hospitalized after falling ill. We are keeping you in our prayers!

Congratulations to Lt Arthur Houllahan of Winchester PD! Brud was recently promoted from Sergeant to Lieutenant!
