Special thanks to Ofc Rich Giacoppo for hosting the November Meeting of the MSOL. DA Keating provided the members with some very helpful information and as always, it is great to have the support from the different levels of MA Law Enforcement! The meeting came right before Rich’s big trip back to Italy, so I am sure he left with a smile on his face because of the success of the meeting!
As you all know, Brud Houllahan of Winchester PD was recently promoted to Lieutenant! While we are sad to see Brud leave after so many years of support, we are happy to announce that his replacement, Sgt Tom Groux will replace him on the Board of Directors. Also, with the reassignment of Sgt Mike Stewart in Saugus, Paul Harkins of the RMV will replace him on the Board of Directors. We welcome both to the Board and look forward to working with them!
Speaking of Paul Harkins – the RMV reported that Operation Yellow Blitz, held on 10/21/09, was again a success. Over 100 citations were issued for School Bus Violations as well as other related violations. Just because the RMV isn’t announcing Yellow Blitz everyday doesn’t mean that there is room to slack. We all could write a book about our experiences with traffic safety – especially with school buses! Not only is it important to keep an eye on the traffic around them, but we all know the buses sometimes need reminders! Great job to everyone who participated in Operation Yellow Blitz and keep up the good work!
A letter will soon be written to the MA Chiefs of Police Association by our president, Paul Corcoran of Lowell. He is looking to recruit members as well as bring interest to the monthly meetings. As we all know, the information provided at the meetings has been very valuable and resourceful. We are hoping to have some Chiefs RSVP and be present at the January Meeting. Not only would this be a great opportunity for new Chiefs, but for ours as well! If you are interesting in bringing your Chief to the January meeting, please let me know so that we can appropriately accommodate…if there is a larger than expected turn-out, we may have to change locations and would like to do that in a timely manner. Spread the word and the website!
We always take the “business” out of the December Meeting and focus more on the friendship & family aspects around the holidays. We hope to see everyone in December for a nice, enjoyable meal among friends and family – feel free to bring a guest and just RSVP so that we have plenty of room….remove the uniforms and come for some laughs and fun! If we don’t see you, we hope that you and your families take a breath and enjoy the holidays ahead!
