The March Meeting was held in Chelmsford and was very well-attended! Once again, Mother Nature didn’t agree (She must love to watch you all walk up the driveway in the rain), but the MSOL certainly delivered on information and networking! It was great to see many new faces, many old faces, and many faces we don’t see often enough! Ray Peachey of PSSG presented the members with the Child Restraint Systems and School Buses Program. Throughout the presentation, Ray spoke of the various systems, occupant protection, the challenge of preschoolers (as if we parents don’t know that already!), the Federal roles, the installations of the various systems, and the bus evacuation requirements. Ray advised everyone to check out
www.nhtsa.com for additional information. If anyone has any questions for Ray on the subject, please don’t hesitate to contact him. Ray has been a member of the MSOL for many, many years and even though he is retired, he is continuing with his mission of children & safety. Thanks Ray!
On March 4th, a School Bus Enforcement class was held in Lowell by Framingham PD Ofc. Ed Burnham for both officers & bus drivers. If anyone has never seen the presentation, I can certainly recommend it. Ed is a full-time officer who is also a bus driver part-time and the information gathered at the class was very useful.
Robert Faherty & John McManus of Cops for Kids with Cancer presented the Members with an overview of their organization. For years the two have helped organize numerous events in order to raise money for families struggling through this terrible illness. As retired Boston Police Officers, both have made a strong commitment to bettering the lives of families during difficult times. Their website
www.copsforkidswithcancer.org
provides more information. Robert & John encouraged any officer who is aware of a family in need of assistance to reach out to them. They are also being added to the MSOL website.
As you all know, April is our Annual Election Meeting. Ofc Michael Croteau of Westford PD has been nominated for the one opening on the Board of Directors. We have had a busy past year and a lot of shuffling on the Board due to promotions and shift reassignments. We look forward to the elections and welcoming Mike onto the Board.
April is a busy meeting – as well as President Paul Corcoran’s last official meeting….we thank Paul for all of his hard work and commitment to the MSOL. Even though Paul is handing the reigns off to Chris Harrington of Bolton PD, we know that he will still continue to work hard for the MSOL.
Please keep Ofc Michael Lee of Reading PD in your thoughts as he serves another tour of duty overseas.
