Danvers man rescues woman
from burning car
DANVERS, Mass. -A
24-year-old man is being credited with saving a young woman’s life
after he ran out of his home in the middle of the night and pulled
her out of a burning car. Michael Scalia Junior was sleeping in
his parent’s Strawberry Hill Lane home at about 12:30 a.m. when
the family was woken by a car accident outside. They looked
outside and saw a Ford Focus had hit a tree on their front lawn
and had burst into flames. Scalia Junior ran outside barefoot and
still in his pajamas. He couldn't see anyone inside until he
opened the door and saw the 23-year-old woman unconscious. He
pulled her out to safety.
"If he hadn't taken that girl out of the can, she would've burned
to death," said Danvers Police Sgt. Paul Stone. The woman was
taken to the hospital. She was in good condition.
"I just hope she's OK. I don't think I did anything extraordinary.
I just hope she's alright," said Scalia.
The woman lives about 300 feet away from the Scalias.
